CHAPTER FIFTEEN

“Thanks.” Nate handed the menus back to the waitress, who wandered off toward the back of the busy Thai restaurant. He and Erika had arrived at a good time, managing to snag one of the comfy booths up front. Although the place was small, the décor was warm and exquisite, with soft lighting, intricately carved wooden statues of goddesses and warriors, ancient-looking glazed clay pots, and stone carvings on the wall. Set on their table, like all the others, fresh orchids blossomed in a vase.

Nate wore his favorite jeans—blue, skinny ones—and an untucked, burgundy, fitted button-down with the cuffs rolled up. As always he’d sprayed on Burberry Brit cologne too. Erika wore a stylish, black, sleeveless V-neck dress that showed off her body. He knew she was in great shape but he couldn’t believe how different she looked in a dress. He felt so proud being out with such an attractive, sexy chick.

He was thrown off, though, by a bizarre tattoo on her upper left arm. He’d never thought of her as the type to have a tat, and since everyone at work wore shirts he’d never seen it before. It was of a nude chick with black wings, her hair partially covering her tits. She had her head thrown back and her mouth open in an apparent state of ecstasy while she sat astride a jagged, wickedly-shaped 7, riding it like a wild bull. It was kind of spooky.

Erika leaned in and locked eyes. “Tell me about yourself.”

Nate shrugged. “Not much to tell. I’m just an average teen finishing high school.”

“What comes after that?”

“Fullerton JC—get my A.A. Then on to flight school.”

“Become an airline pilot?”

“That’s the plan. I take lessons and really dig it.”

“You gonna fly me away?”

“Wherever you wanna go.” They shared a smile. “How about you?”

Erika leaned back in her seat. “I’ve been working on my degree little by little. I’ve still got several units to go. But it’s slow going when you’re on your own and you have to work for a living.”

“What are you working toward?”

“I wanna start my own business.”

“What kind?”

“I don’t know—anything. I just wanna be my own boss. I hate taking orders from people.”

He nodded. “I can relate.”

“It’s a male-dominated world and women can’t rely on men to help them get ahead. No offense.”

Shaking his head, he said, “I know what you mean.”

“I was born to give orders, not take them.”

The waitress brought their drinks and set them down before walking off again.

“I think you’d make a great boss,” he said, unwrapping the straw for his iced tea. “I’d work for you.”

“Would you?

“I don’t see why not.” Nate winked at her. “I’d let you be the boss of me.”

Erika leaned in again and spoke in a lascivious tone that increased in intensity with every word. “I’d drive you hard. I’d make you sweat. You’d be sore when your shift was over.” She reached for her wine and drank, never taking her eyes off him.

He was spellbound, captured by her gaze. He even spoke as if he was in a trance, saying slowly, “I think I’d like that.
